Pet Destress Event Spring 2016
In the Spring semester 2016, PTK sponsored a visit from Love on a Leash as our Pet Destress event. the first 25 students at the event were also provided destress kits we put together. The kits included fun items such as coloring books and bubbles. A donation box was left in the east mall and donations from students and staff were passed on Granny Rose's Animal Shelter in Dixon. We collected 100 file folders, 2 bags of cat litter, 21 dollars, 3 note books, a
stack of note-cards, a bundle of pens and pencils, a bag of Iams dog
food, 4 towels, 4 boxes of dog treats, bag of dog bones, 2 dog toys, and
5 cat toys.

2016 convention
The PTK International Convention was in Maryland this year. We had a great time with super ideas for next semester, inspirational speakers, lots of energy from fellow PTK members from all over and some sight-seeing in nearby Washington D.C.
Next year the convention will be in Nashville, Tennessee from April 6-8. Think about going with us!

Some PTK Spring 2016 Scholarship Information

One of the many benefits of belonging to PTK are the scholarship opportunities, and I wanted to pass some along:

Several institutions offer PTK students transfer scholarships, and here are some that have recently advertised:
- Emerson College offers a Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship. Apply for Transfer Admission by March 15th, separate scholarship application due April 4th.
- Wilmington College offers a $12,500/year Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship. For more information, contact Heather Miller at heather_miller@wilmington.edu or 937-481-2426.
- Boston University will award up to 5 $20,000 Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships. Submission deadline is March 1st..
PTK also has a list of some other scholarships listed on their website, and the PTK Spring Scholarship applications open on March 1st.

Some Early Spring 2016 PTK Events
Hello everyone!
Here are some events that PTK is involved/looking to be involved in with semester. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer for one, please contact one of the PTK advisors, Dr. Chisholm (james.r.chisholm@svcc.edu) or Mrs. Anton (lori.h.anton@svcc.edu).
PTK Bake Sale - Tuesday, February 9th, 10am-3pm
If you plan to bring items for the bake sale, you can drop them off at the tables near the physics area right outside of Dr. Chisholm's office (2G4) before 10am. Also see the link below for some health/safety regulations we were asked to pass along from the Lee County Department of Health.
Sterling HS College and Career Fair - Wednesday, March 2nd, 8:15 - 11:25am (at SHS)
On March 2nd, Sterling High School will be hosting their College & Career Fair for their freshman students. Last year, they had 300 freshmen and several upper class students walk through the fair and SVCC had several programs represented at tables. The fair will run from 8:15-11:25.
PTK would like to send some students (perhaps SHS alums?) to represent both SVCC and our chapter to prospective students. If you are free this morning, it would be an excellent opportunity to do some PTK outreach, as well as assist our chapter in completing a regional PTK project.
Please RSVP to one of the advisors by Thursday, February 11th so that we may make arrangements.
Earth Day Trash Pick-up - Tuesday, April 19th, 1pm -- ??
In cooperation with the Friends of the Prairie Committee, SVCC is looking to participate in a trash pick-up along our sponsored section of Route 2 on Earth Day, and we would like to have PTK be a visible component of this event. More information will be delivered as the event gets closer; please contact one of the advisors if you're interested.
